Google’s Answer: “Check for a permanent label or mark on one of the door corners. If it is an impact-resistant door, you’ll be able to sport a tag with the supplier’s name and company. The other details to look out for include, the manufacturing date, fabrication site, and the thickness.”

Smash City Pro’s Answer:

Most door manufacturers have the ability to make an impact door. However, you have to be very careful because all of those companies also make non-impact doors.

Think about it this way: Florida is essentially the only domestic market that is majority impact doors, which is in competition with all the other states where these manufacturers sell doors. Every company started with non-impact doors.

What you want to consider is which company can provide you with an impact door that is also in the style and configuration that you actually want. Not every company can do all their non-impact styles as impact rated because they haven’t tested their products with whichever design quality you’re considering.

This is why it is important to go to someone who knows what they’re doing and has the ability to provide different solutions that you are actually excited about, not just one you’ll settle with. At Smash City, we work with dozens of manufacturers, rather than only one or two, so that you can truly get the impact door or window you are looking for in the style you desire.

You also want to make sure that the company you go through is able to install impact doors and do so to code. You wouldn’t take your BMW over to the Ford dealership for service or repairs, just like you wouldn’t want a door installer who installs non-impact products to install an impact product.

Not all of Florida requires impact products, so there are many companies that may be a little cheaper, but it’s because they are inland where hurricanes are less likely and do not install impact products. At Smash City, we ONLY install impact products every single day.

It may be the right time for you to replace your windows and doors. But how do you know? And how do you choose the best option for your home?
